The Aquaman actress took the witness stand on the tenth day of hearings for Depp’s libel suit against the publication, The Sun, on July 20. According to NBC News, she recalled the alleged verbal and physical abuse such as punching, kicking, slapping, choking, and head-butting. Also, she addressed her previous claims from her written witness statement which was submitted to court.
Based on the statement obtained by E! News, the actress wrote that the Pirates of the Caribbean star accused her of having sexual relations with her co-stars like James Franco, Billy-Bob Thornton, Liam Hemsworth, Kevin Costner, Channing Tatum and more. H also accused her for having affairs with her work associates and even with her female co-stars.
Meanwhile, Heard said that Depp accused her of having an affair with Leonardo DiCaprio whom she auditioned with. According to the actress, he would taunt her about it especially when he was drunk or high. She added that he even came up with nicknames for these men. For instance, Leonardo was ‘pumpkin-head’, Tatum was ‘potato-head’, and ‘Jim Turd Sturgess’. However, Tatum’s rep issued a statement to E! News that this is nonsense and untrue.
Heard went on to say that he would try and catch her by taking her phone or telling her that someone told him she was having an affair and pretend to have proof. Such allegations are examples of her ex-husband’s “controlling and isolating behaviour”.
In 2018, The Sun published an article that described Depp as a “wife-beater” which the actor denied. This is the reason why he filed a lawsuit against News Group Newspapers which owns the publication and Dan Wootton, the paper’s executive editor.
Based on the previous nine days of their trial, the actor claimed it was Heard and not him who was the aggressor. The ex-couple’s current and former employees supported these claims and testified in his favour. However, Heard said that these acts of violence she’s accused of were done from defending herself. While she was on the witness stand she admitted that there were instances when she had outbursts and lost her cool in their fights.- Advertisement -
According to NBC News, this was the actress’ first day out of three days on the witness stand. The court will be asking her about 14 allegations of domestic violence against the actor. The Sun’s publisher relies on her testimony as a defence for the article they published in April 2018.
