Charlize Theron and Other Celebrities Surprised Teens with Scholarships

On December 11, Hollywood celebrities gathered during The Hollywood Reporter’s 2019 Power 100 Women in Entertainment held at the Milk Studios in Los Angeles. The event was presented by Lifetime.

Influential women like Reese Witherspoon delivered inspiring speeches in front of dozens of teenagers who are presently a part of the Women in Entertainment Mentorship Program. In addition, they received a huge surprise which was presented by Charlize Theron.

The actress said that for many years, the program has been supported by Lifetime and the Entertainment Industry Foundation. She thanked Paul Buccieri and Michael Feeney of Lifetime and also extended her thanks to the EIF’s Chris Silbermann and Nicole Sexton for being supportive. She added how thankful she was for these people because it is through them that the 40 girls in the room will each receive a scholarship amounting to $10,000.

Based on a report by The Hollywood Reporter, Marilyn and Jeffrey Katzenberg were the ones who created the scholarship fund which provided each girl under the program with access to the Katzenberg Fund. It will help in providing them with tuition, books, and travel.

Theron also announced that every girl in the said program will receive an Apple laptop through the Wasserman Foundation.

Meanwhile, the event also honored Witherspoon and Ronan Farrow. On the other hand, Gretchen Carlson, John Legend, Mindy Kaling, and Kerry Washington were also in attendance during the event where they served as presenters. Other guests included Ginnifer Goodwin, Sophia Bush, Connie Britton, and Niecy Nash were also there to witness this special surprise to the students.

During her speech, Washington told the students to remember how they feel because in the path they’re going to take; they will be made to put their best foot forward. They’ll enter rooms where they feel out of place or unsure of what to say or when they feel like apologizing for their accent and more. According to her, it’s a sign that they are growing in the right path. She further said that they should get out of their comfort zones and go to places that challenge them. She said that they deserve it and they are changing lives.
