The highest monument in the world has recently been built in India. The statue is 182m (600ft) tall and is a bronze-clad tribute Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. He was Indian independence leader.
The structure is located in the western state of Gujarat and is believed to become the next major tourist attraction. Not everyone in the state is happy about it being erected though. Many locals believe that it is a huge waste of public funds, and that money should have rather been used for public projects.
Truly a historic day today as we celebrate Sardar Vallabh Patel's birth anniversary with the unveiling of world's tallest statue, the #StatueOfUnity. The iconic statue is a fitting tribute to Sardar Patel and his mission of uniting India. pic.twitter.com/0II9R67JW1

This statue might not remain the tallest for long though. The government of another Indian state of Maharashtra is set to build an even higher one to king Shivaji, who was a Marathi warrior. And this one is expected to be around 190 meters (623,36 ft) tall.
