Joaquin Phoenix Praises Heath Ledger in SAG Awards 2020 Speech


Joaquin Phoenix had another feather added to his ap. On Sunday night, Phoenix continued his winning streak as he was awarded for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role in a Motion Picture category on the SAG Awards 2020.

Phoenix has beat out other actors including the Ford vs Ferrari Actor, Christian Bale, Leonardo DiCaprio for Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood, Taron Egerton on Rocketman and Adam Driver for Marriage Story. In his speech after bagging one of the biggest awards of the night, he focused on shouting out everything that amazes him on his for competitors. Not only that, but he also took a moment to honor the late Heath Ledger, who nabbed an Oscar Awards for his role as Joker in The Dark Knight Rises 10 years ago. However, he passed away in January 2008 at a young age of 28.

Phoenix also took his time in highlighting something he loves and respects about his fellow nominees. He first talked about Leonardo DiCaprio who he described as the kid that they would lose into during auditions. He thanked DiCaprio for being an inspiration to everyone for the past 25 years.

After this, Phoenix turned his attention to Christian Bale and jokingly asked him to suck even once on his career. He showed how impressed he is on Bale’s roles and that he never got any bad performance. He praised him for committing to his roles.

When it came to Driver, Phoenix told him that he has been watching him through the last few years. He said that Driver has been becoming a beautiful, toned, incredible and profound on his performances. He also exclaimed that he was moved by Driver and that he was very overwhelming in his film.

Lastly, he focused on Taron Egerton who won in the Golden Globes for his role as the iconic Elton John in Rocketman. He expressed how happy he is and said that Egerton was stunning on the movie and he can’t wait to see more of what he can do
