Katy Perry got honest about how she felt about her short breakup from Orlando Bloom in 2017. Katy recalled when things weren’t picture-perfect, while the two are now engaged happily and together, expecting their first child.
In a recent interview with SiriusXM’s CBC Radio One, the 35-year-old songstress said that she lost her smile and that for a long time, she was riding on the high of a smile – the admiration, love and validation from the outside world, but then, that shifted.
She explained that she had the smallest shift which wasn’t that huge from an outside perspective when her career was on a trajectory going up, but it was seismic for her. She recalled breaking up with her boyfriend, who is currently her baby-daddy-to-be, and then she was stoked about flying high off the next record, and that record didn’t get her high anymore, adding that the validation didn’t get her high, and so she just crashed.
That time of Katy’s life broke her in half literally, and she shared how from that experience, she healed and grew.
The American Idol judge expressed that for her, it was so important to be broken so in a whole different way, she could find her wholeness – and be more dimensional than just living her life all the time like a thirsty pop star.
For getting her out of “sadness,” she credited her strong faith and gratitude practices as the key factors.
Katy has also opened up about her mental health struggles in the past.
To express her feelings with depression, she took to Twitter last month, writing that sometimes she doesn’t know what’s worse – trying to evade the virus or the waves of depression that come along this new norm.
She revealed she cried a lot. She explained at the time that she thinks a lot of that was hormonal and that she isn’t used to being around so many people for so long all in a confined or small space, sharing that there isn’t really anywhere to go besides her car, so she goes to her car a lot for that is her safe space.- Advertisement -
Katy also revealed what it’s been like quarantining with Orlando, along with getting candid about her mental health during pregnancy. During an Instagram Live with Cyn in May, the 35-year-old star quipped that if anyone loves her during quarantine, they can love her any other time.
Kidding aside, Katy talked about her fiancé and how having a life-long partner can reflect you. She said that you’re always going to be working on yourself and your relationship, and that your partner is your mirror.
