Natalie Portman’s Oscars Outfit Slammed by Rose McGowan

Rose McGowan had some thoughts regarding Natalie Portman’s Oscars tribute.

During the Oscars 2020 on Sunday night, Natalie Portman was in attendance wearing a Dior gown along with a matching cape. The cape had a special meaning for the actress who has been an advocate of the Time’s Up movement. Her cape had stitched names of the female directors who have been snubbed this year by the Academy Awards.

At the ceremony, Portman explained the significance of her cape and told that she wanted to give recognition to women who were not given acknowledgement for their incredible work this year.

In response to the Portman’s take, Rose McGowan took to Facebook her thoughts on the tribute. McGowan said that the kind of protest gets rave reviews from the media for the kind of bravery, but not bravery by a long shot. She went to write that she find that kind of activism to be deeply offensive to those of them who actually do the work. She also explained that she’s not writing everything out of bitterness but because of disgust. She also said that she just wanted Portman and other actresses to walk the walk.

McGowan also directed a message to Portman saying that she have worked with two female directors in her very long career and one of them was herself. She also pointed out that Portman has a production company that has hired exactly one female director which was also herself. She also said that she’s singling out Portman because she was the latest in a long line of actresses who acts the part of being a woman caring for fellow women but pointed out that actresses should stand for women but in reality do not much at all.

McGowan ended her post by giving a message to Portman that until she and her fellow actresses get real, they should hang up their embroidered activist cloak because it doesn’t hang right.

On the other side of the story, Portman said she agreed with McGowan that it’s inaccurate to call her brave for wearing a garment with women’s names. For Portman, brave is a term she uses more strongly to associate with actions like those women who have been testifying against Harvey Weinstein under incredible pleasure. She also agreed with McGowan that she only made few films with women and made commercials, music videos and features with Sofia Coppola, Rebecca Zlotowski, Mira Nair, and Mrya Cohen.

She also said that the unmade films she tried to make were ghost history. She also shared that all she wanted to say she tried and she will keep trying and while she has not been yet successful, she’s still hoping that she will step into it someday.
