Taylor Swift didn’t only go home with the prestigious Artist of the Decade award during the 2019 American Music Awards held on November 24. She also broke Michael Jackson’s record for having the most number of AMA wins of all time with a total of 25 awards.
The “Lover” singer also delivered a powerful performance during the awards night which only proved why she deserved her Artist of the Decade award. She didn’t directly call out her feud with Big Machine Label Group but she did send a not-so-subtle message based on her song choices on Sunday.
She almost wasn’t able to sing her old songs but thankfully she was given permission to do so. She and music manager Scooter Braun had a disagreement since he bought Big Machine Label Group last June. Their dispute escalated a few weeks ago over recording rights and to whether or not the artist was allowed to sing her old songs. Many celebrities expressed their support for the singer including bestie, Selena Gomez.
She performed a medley of her greatest hits kicking off with “The Man” from her latest album, “Lover”. She sang her famous “Love Story” which was the soundtrack from the movie Letters to Juliet. Then she went on to singing “I Knew You Were Trouble” and “Blank Space”. In addition, she sang “Shake It Off” with two other singers, Halsey and Camila Cabello. She also performed “Lover”, playing the song in a pink piano, while famous ballerina, Misty Copeland, danced on stage.- Advertisement -
Meanwhile, Carole King presented her the Artist of the Decade award. She actually took a moment to say how King’s music meant so much especially to her and her family. She said she couldn’t believe that Carole King presented her the award because her parents were there at the audience and she recalled how they would listen to her music in high school.
Taylor Swift in her final speech said that the last year of her life had some amazing times and also some of the hardest she had ever gone through. She went on by saying thank you to everybody who had been constant in her life. She won a total of six awards that night including Artist of the Year.
