Taylor Swift proves she’s not just a singer who entertains millions of fans but that she also has a big and courageous heart. Just recently, she used her social media platform in stressing the importance of exercising a person’s right to vote in the elections.
On Tuesday, the multi-awarded singer took to Twitter and posted, “Racial injustice has been ingrained deeply into local and state governments, and changes MUST be made there. In order for policies to change, we need to elect people who will fight against police brutality and racism of any kind. #BlackLivesMatter.”
We need to fight for mail-in voting for the 2020 election. No one should have to choose between their health and having their voice heard. https://t.co/4ImsKW1fQN— Taylor Swift (@taylorswift13) June 9, 2020
In addition, the songstress also shared an article written by former US President Barack Obama. According to her, his recent article was a fascinating read which tackled topics on changing policy at the state and local levels.
This article was published on Medium and was entitled, “How to Make This Moment the Turning Point for Real Change”. Based on the article, Obama mentioned that it is up to a “new generation of activists” to keep things up after the nationwide protests brought about by the death of George Floyd.
As far as changing the policy within the state and local levels, the singer said that Obama emphasized how important it is for people to understand which levels of the government have the greatest impact on the country’s criminal justice system as well as in the field of police practices.
Obama further said that when people think about politics, they only focus on the presidency and the federal government. He agreed that people should fight to have a president, a Congress, a U.S. Justice Department, and a federal judiciary. These branches recognize the vital role that racism is playing in the society and that they want to do something about it, too. However, the elected officials who have the greatest impact in reforming police departments as well as the criminal justice system, work only at the state and local levels.”- Advertisement -
In addition to this article written by the former president, Swift also shared other resources with her followers regarding the things they need to know to vote.
In another tweet, she shared a resource from Vote.org and encouraged others that they need to fight for in-mail voting during the 2020 election. She added that no one should have to choose between their health and having their voice heard.
