A few hours after the Prince and his wife shared their plan, the Queen said that the discussion on the matter is still in its early stages.
On Wednesday, the Queen’s office of Buckingham Palace said that they understood why Prince Harry and Meghan wanted a different approach, but they clarified that it would take time to work on.
While pieces of ideas were already taking place about the couple’s decision, insiders tell PEOPLE that the Queen, Prince Charles, Prince William, and the members of the royal family were still overwhelmed by the couple’s statement.
Besides this, Harry and Meghan also plan to be financially independent of the Crown. The couple is planning to move to North America, and they will be spending their time there when they are not in the UK.
As they wrote on Instagram, they plan to balance their time between the UK and North America and will continue to honor their duty to the Queen, the Commonwealth, as well as their patronages. For them, the balance in geography will help them raise their son with balance too. Their son will be able to appreciate royal tradition and also allow their own family to focus on the next chapter, including the start of a new charitable entity.
The couple’s plans arose after they were entangled in several lawsuits with the UK press. They felt strained earlier this fall in the middle of tabloid pressure and family tensions that are continuing through time. Individuals close to Meghan and Harry said that the couple struggle with ongoing feelings of isolation from the rest of the family. In October, Harry’s friend Tom Bradby was interviewed and described the couple as “bruised and vulnerable.”- Advertisement -
Following their revelations on their October documentary, in which Meghan shared her pain as being a new mom in the spotlight and Harry admitted his desperation to protect his family from continuous tabloid issues, a source says that eyes are open about their emotional pain. Still, the relationship between them and the royal family hasn’t quite improved.
