Tom Hanks proved once again that he doesn’t only appeal to older individuals but kids, too. Indeed, the multi-awarded actor showed that kids out there have a friend in him.
On Thursday, many Australian television networks reported that Hanks surprised an 8-year-old local boy named Corona. The boy has been suffering from bullying because his name is the same as the virus that continues to plague the whole world.
So how did it all begin? Corona De Vries wrote a letter to Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson after the couple tested positive with the coronavirus while they were still in Australia. Hanks was there to film a new project while Wilson was on tour when it happened.
According to Channel 7 News, the boy wrote to the couple when he heard the news about him and his wife after they were diagnosed of COVID-19. The boy asked if they were okay. He added that he loves his name, Corona, but at school he is being bullied and people started calling him Coronavirus. The boy said he gets very sad and angry when people call him this.
To everyone’s delight, Hanks saw Corona’s letter and not only that. The actor said he would give him a special gift. According to Hanks, his letter made him and his wife feel wonderful and he thanked him for being a good friend. He also said that friends make each other feel better when they are down. Hanks mentioned that he saw the boy on TV even though he and his wife were back in the USA. He added that though he is no longer sick, his letter made him feel a whole lot better.- Advertisement -
But there’s more! Hanks gave the boy a gift and he took to Instagram to share the brand new Corona Typewriter he got him. He wrote a personal letter to the boy telling him to ask a grown up how to use the typewriter and to use it to write him back. He ended his letter by saying he’s got a friend in him.
He wrote in a post before when they were still self-isolating in Australia that he travelled there with a typewriter which he used to love. He also reminded everybody that we are all in this together and to flatten the curve.
