Another social flash mob went viral on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram in the beginning of January. The conditions are simple: posting your picture from 10 years ago alongside with your latest photo under the #10yearchallenge hashtag. As with most like flash mobs it’s pretty hard to say who was the first one to start the whole game, but many Internet users traditionally believe there is much more behind the scene and blame official Facebook for leading another unfair game with its users. In particular, there is a talk that the challenge is used to test Facebook’s age recognition algorithm. On the one hand, it sounds quite innocent: most pictures have already been uploaded to social media and can be easily seen by anyone, users just need to combine the two pictured into a collage. On the other hand, asking for users’ permission to participate in Facebook marketing investigation would not hurt anyone, plus we do not know for sure what is the real aim of the whole thing.
Anyway, millions of people found it fun to see how they had changed over time. The challenge has broadened its initial boundaries, and alongside then-and-now portraits people started posting funny stuff to compare how the world had changed in general over this time. Here are some most prominent examples of both variants of the challenge.
- Reese Witherspoon
Time just does not work for some people. Big Little Lies star Reese Witherspoon definitely knows something others don’t. Perhaps the secret is indeed in “having fun” all the way long. In any case, she has always been a model to follow and it’s good to know that she only becomes better over time.
2. Jessica Biel
For Jessica changes in how she looks are absolutely obvious. But has she really aged? Not even a little bit. Which proves again that real beauty is not afraid of time.
3. Caitlyn Jenner
Caitlyn Jenner, previously known as Bruce Jenner, the ex husband of the Kardashian mom Kris Jenner, used the challenge for something more than just comparing how she’d aged. The post demonstrating her transgender switchover to womanhood also emphasizes on the need to “be authentic”, which is probably the main principle of her life now.
